Managing stress is no small task in today's fast-paced world. Between Zoom calls, school drop-offs, sports games, family get-togethers, board meetings, and trying to do your best at work, life can feel like it's constantly moving.
Ironically, planning a day to recharge can feel like just another thing on your to-do list. Sometimes the only thing you want to do is crawl back into bed. But making time for yourself is worth it.
Stress has a sneaky way of building up over time. It often shows up in ways we don't even notice until we're completely overwhelmed. You might think you're handling everything just fine, and then suddenly you find yourself crying face-first into your breakfast burrito at a local café while the other five people in the restaurant pretend not to stare. (that’s a super specific scenario 🫠)
That's why having a simple self-care plan can make such a difference. Here are a few easy, low-maintenance, stress relief ideas that require very little planning but can help you recharge and face tomorrow feeling refreshed.
Get Out of the House
If you're anything like me, sometimes staying home only reminds you of everything that still needs to be done. The laundry, the dishes, the clutter—it all seems to demand your attention.
Instead, give yourself permission to leave it behind for a few hours.
Head to your favorite coffee shop, grab lunch at a restaurant you love, or, if you're feeling adventurous, drive to the next town over and explore somewhere you've never been before. Discovering a new bookstore, boutique, or cozy café can be surprisingly refreshing. Sometimes a change of scenery is all it takes to reset your perspective.
And if you're already out, why not treat yourself to a mani/pedi on the way home. Little moments of joy can make a big difference.
Stay In
Of course, some days leaving the house feels like too much—and that's perfectly okay.
Put on your coziest pajamas, curl up with your current book, or spend a few minutes journaling to clear your mind. Writing your thoughts down can help release the mental clutter you've been carrying around.
You can also refresh your surroundings without spending a fortune. Put on fresh sheets, light a candle, fluff your favorite throw pillows, or rearrange a corner of your room. Even sitting outside on your porch or patio with a cup of coffee can provide a peaceful change of scenery. Sometimes the smallest changes create the biggest sense of calm.
Take a Break from Social Media
Don't worry—I'm only suggesting this for one day, remember.
It's easy to fall into the habit of constantly comparing our lives to everyone else's highlight reel. Seeing where people are traveling, what they're buying, or what they're accomplishing can add unnecessary pressure without us even realizing it.
Give yourself permission to unplug for the day. Silence those constant insta notifications, and be present where you are.
You may be surprised by how much lighter and more peaceful you feel after just a few hours away from social media.
Have an Everything Skincare Day
If you have a slow morning, why not spend it giving your skin some extra love. If you've heard of an "everything shower," kind of the same thing just for your face.
This is the day you do it all. Peel, exfoliate, moisturize, maybe add some deep condition to your hair, use your favorite face mask, roll out your facial massage stone, and put on that collagen mask you've been saving. Make a homemade sugar scrub if that's your thing.
Turn on your favorite playlist or podcast and enjoy slowing down for a little while.
You don't have to do an elaborate skincare routine every day— but doing it sometimes has to count for something doesn’t?
Pray and Cry
Sometimes simply finding a quiet place, talking to God, and ugly crying is all you need to recharge.
There is something incredibly freeing about laying every worry, fear, and frustration at His feet. A good cry doesn't make you weak—it reminds you that you're human. And after you've released everything you've been carrying, you'll feel lighter, calmer, and ready to keep moving forward.
When was the last time you truly slowed down long enough to tell God everything that was on your heart?
Do Something Creative
Creativity has a unique way of slowing our minds down and helping us live in the moment. Whether it's painting, coloring, baking, crocheting, decorating a journal, or making something with your hands, creative hobbies give your brain a chance to focus on something enjoyable instead of stressful.
You don't have to be an artist to create something—you just have to be willing to have fun and let your hands do the creating.
That's one of the reasons we love creating DIY craft experiences. Spending an hour making something with your hands isn't just about the finished project—it's about giving yourself permission to slow down, laugh, and enjoy the process.
A Little Reminder
Self-care doesn't have to be expensive, complicated, or take an entire weekend. Sometimes it's as simple as stepping away from your responsibilities for a few hours, reading a book, taking a drive, praying, or creating something that brings you joy.
The goal isn't to escape your life—it's to recharge so you can return to it with a clearer mind, lighter mood, and a grateful heart.
If you’re looking for a relaxing way to unplug and you're in the Houston area, we’d love to help you create those moments through one of our hands-on craft events. To help you step away, get creative, and enjoy a screen-free moment for yourself or with the people you love.
